Product of the Month:
The Formation Suite
With the introduction of their Formation Suite, Bowers & Wilkins has once again raised the bar and shown why they are the dominating manufacturer of amazing speakers. While interest for wireless speakers has rapidly accelerated, there hasn’t been a great balance between convenience, connectivity, and sound quality. That is until Bowers & Wilkins decided to research this segment of the speaker market, and develop the first truly high-end approach to the wireless speakers.
Five components make up the Formation Suite, and they are connected via a singularly unique approach to wireless connectivity, which results in a completely immersive soundstage experience, and an imperceptible in-room 1-microsecond sync between speakers. Bowers & Wilkins utilizes a patented mesh network developed to run independently from your home WiFi network to ensure high-resolution audio performance throughout your home.
The Formation Audio is a hub that transforms your passive system into a multi-room system, allowing you to connect analog devices and stream to Formation speakers. You can stream in 96/24 bit high-resolution to your passive system using the Formation® Wireless Technology but also take advantage of WiFi, Apple® AirPlay 2®, or Bluetooth.
Synchronization in perfected harmony is accomplished with the other Formation products:
The Formation Bar is a wall-mountable and provides high-fidelity sound for music and movies. It has 9 optimized drivers, each optimally positioned to create a wide and immersive soundstage ideal for both music and movies. Like all of the products in the Formation Suite, the Formation Bar synchronizes in perfected harmony with other Formation products.
The Formation Bass adds a new dimension of powerful sounding bass to your music and movies with B&W’s opposed dual driver technology and Dynamic EQ. The Formation Bass pairs with other Formation speakers for the ultimate audio immersion.
The Formation Wedge creates nearly perfect in-room speaker synchronization, providing the ultimate listening experience. Its streamlined user interface takes just moments to set up and start playing. The unique 120-degree elliptical shape perfectly angles a full range of components for room-filling, stereo sound.
The Formation Duo are speakers that utilize the same patented carbon dome tweeter design as their 700 series and wirelessly deliver a precise soundscape, unlike any other wireless speaker. When paired with the Formation Bass, you’ll enjoy a completely immersive sound.
The Formation Duo is the ultimate in 96/24 bit high-resolution streaming audio system, with a carbon domed tweeter-on-top design from the B&W 700 Series. They are also designed with the legendary Continuum™ Cone from the B&W 800 Series. They feature the Formation® Wireless Technology but are also compatible with WiFi, Apple® AirPlay 2®, Spotify® Connect, Roon and Bluetooth.
If you are looking for the convenience of wireless connectivity but appreciate the clean and rich sound that Bowers & Wilkins is known for, the Formation Suite is just the ticket.
The Bowers & Wilkins Formation Wedge is a small speaker–about 10 inches high and deep, and just over 11 inches wide–that one might wrongly call a Bluetooth speaker. Yes, you can connect it via Bluetooth (AptX HD), as well as AirPlay 2 and other wireless means, but don’t call it a “Bluetooth speaker.” Instead, think of it as a genuinely audiophile-grade, Roon-capable all-in-one speaker that can accept 96/24 HD feeds and music from your phone/tablet/PC, and also serve as one of many endpoints in a larger wireless multiroom audio system. – Home Theater Review
